DEEPER PRACTICE: SOmATIC YOGA, MANTRA & MEDITATION
SATURDAY 26th July

A lot of us crave more freedom in our movement, breath and body, more expression & deeper insight, leading towards an attuned and loving inner presence. We want to properly know and accept ourselves, at our most clumsy and most elegant, at our most calm and most wild. This is life energy wanting to taste more of itself through us - pure prana!
This impulse can get a little masked amidst swathes of yoga styles, techniques, sequences, comparison, habits, and thinking there is a right or better "way" we must adhere to.
Working somatically (which means of the body, from the inside out) we open ourselves up to not-knowing, and enter an exploration to meet ourselves as we are - physically, energetically and emotionally. The key principles are enquiry (svadyaya), gravity, breath, and sensing the difference between effort & yielding. This way of moving and enquiring is inspired by the intuitive legacy of Vanda Scaravelli, who herself was massively inspired by nature.
Jill was lucky enough at the outset of her yoga journey to meet teachers who were steeped in these types of enquires – Florence Krol, Diane Long, John Stirk and Catherine Annis. When we work in this way, the Asana or posture practice becomes fuel and insight for your inner-revelations, not something that is imposed on the body from the outside.
It’s usually fun, deep and revealing! And you're welcome to suggest Asanas you'd like to include for particular exploration.
As well as a nourishing movement practice, we will work with the breath throughout, and offer an opening and closing Mantra and Meditation, as well as a generous space for rest.
This workshop is suitable for all bodies and all levels of experience.

DEEPER STILL: SOMATIC MOVEMENT & MEDITATION
SATURDAY 20th of SEPTEMBER

How often do you take the time to explore the deeper aspects of your own yoga practice? This somatic movement & meditation workshop offers the space to connect more intentionally with your own inner knowing and the quality of listening to and sensing with the body. We might explore:
● What is the underlying emotional tone in which our movements arise?
● How are we relating to good and bad, tension and freedom?
● What happens if the mind softens its grip on how we should do things in
yoga?
● Can we experience the Yamas and Niyamas through movement?
These inquiries, inspired by the somatic, intuitive legacy of Vanda Scaravelli, support us in becoming present with ourselves moment by moment, rather than focusing on pre-set ideas or sequences. This approach works with the intelligence of the inner knowing, the felt-sense, and nervous system, not overriding it, but allowing it time. It can be gentle, and it also demands everything we have got – making it a beautiful metaphor for life!
As well as nourishing movement practice, we will weave in breath, meditation and rest. Suitable for all bodies.
